What’s New in iOS 9…Well, What Not!

Apple rolled out iOS 9 for the developers on June 8, 2015 at its annual Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event. The OS was released for public on September 16. Apple Inc. made sure that all the iOS devices that supported iOS 8 were eligible for iOS 9 update. The list of Apple gadgets that support iOS 9 include iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad Mini 1st generation, and all their successor devices.

The iOS 9 has brought a bagful of eye-catching novelties with it. The positive changes can be corroborated by the fact that more than 50 percent of Apple devices are already running on this OS. The latest iOS is not just faster, but renders a significantly longer battery life for the devices. The under-the-hood improvements, like the security features, are also taken care of carefully.

Then, Apple’s personal digital assistant Siri has got more clever and chattier this time. The company’s continuous efforts at improving its once-disastrous map service also comes to the notice with iOS 9. Though, there is still a lot to be done for Apple Maps to make it stand in front of the Google Maps. However, the inclusion of directions for public transport is a welcome novelty, no doubt!

If you are one of those who have been using Apple gadgets for ages, you will definitely find the new features of the new iOS worth mentioning. If you are fond of jotting down your thoughts or like to take note, you are going to like the improvements in the built-in Notes app. The formatting toolbar lets you insert checklists, photos, videos, and more into the notes with ease.   The new-look keyboard will not go unnoticed. Apple seems to have bid farewell to the uppercase keyboard—better late than never.

And for the selfie folks—all your selfies will be stored in a separate selfie folder within the photos app. The iOS 9 tried to go a step ahead for the iPad users with features like split-screen multitasking, picture-in-picture video and more.

There is no doubt that there is still scope for improvement, but Apple’s efforts towards the accomplishment of its original philosophy of “the beauty of simplicity” is not to be overlooked.
