Insights into Windows 10 – Some Lesser Known Facts

The recently rolled out Windows 10 is aimed at mainly enterprise customers. Microsoft has lived up to its promise of a more intuitive operating system that will help millions of users who still work on Windows 7. We bring to you a list of some lesser known facts about this long waited product.

  1. Microsoft chose to ditch Microsoft 9 because it is not building an incremental product, but a relatively new product altogether. This was its reason for choosing the name as Windows 10. “When you see the product in its fullness, I think you’ll agree it’s an appropriate name for the breadth of the product family that’s coming,” the spokesperson for Microsoft claimed at a recent press conference.
  1. Microsoft claims that a person new to Windows 10 will not have to make too many efforts to get a hang of the product. It is relatively easy to understand and use. This has led Microsoft to use the Tesla analogy for its product. In this regard, a comment was made by a company official. “Yesterday, they were driving a first-gen Prius, and when they got Windows 10 they didn’t have to learn to drive something new, but it was as if we got them a Tesla,” Myerson said.
  1. Windows 10 is said to be able to run on all devices ranging from tablets to smartphones to desktops and even embedded products. “It will run on the broadest types of devices ever, from the smallest ‘Internet of things’ device to enterprise data centers worldwide,” Myerson said. “Some of these devices have 4-inch screens, and some will have 80-inch screens. And some don’t have any screen at all.”
  1. Microsoft has tried to combine the familiarity of Windows 7 with the modern interface of Windows 8 in the start menu. The menu is split. On the left, apps are displayed in the familiar Windows 7 style, while on the right are more colorful “live tiles” that open the modern, Windows 8-style apps. The start menu is customizable, so a user can resize the tiles and move them around, and make the start menu tall and thin or long and flat.
  1. The new product will enable users to get the same environment on all the devices and not toggle between distinct app environments when they switch from one device to the other. In a statement issued by the company, it was said “We want users on PCs with mice and keyboards to have their familiar desktop UI — a task bar and a start menu. And regardless of how an app was written or distributed to your machine, it works the way you expect.”
  1. Unlike Windows 8, Windows 10 has a feature like OS X’s Mission Control that allows users to zoom out and see everything that’s open on a PC, then select any app to enter it. Multiple desktop configurations can be opened at the same time and a user can switch between them.
  1. Windows 10 is deemed to be a lot more familiar and intuitive for end users than Windows 8. It is compatible with all traditional management systems in use today. With Windows 10, customers can use MDM to manage all their Windows devices” including PCs, laptops and even Internet of things devices.

With its never-ending list of features, this is one of the most sought-after products launched in recent times and has bewitched everyone for personal as well as professional use. Windows 10 has been doing well in the market and has received great reviews from all corners of the world.
