6 Software Testing Trends 2016 to Keep an Eye On

2015 has undergone a great evolution on software testing trends in the IT industry services. Also, there has been a drastic increase in the market trends in design, development, testing, quality and delivery. With an organized architecture and increase in virtualization, there are plenty of new aspects to consider as a lot more testing trends in software testing domains have become a challenge.

Blame it on globalization or on the wide range of new platforms and technology. Whatever the reason is, business throughout the world is rapidly changing and software testing isn’t immune to it. Year after year we are coming across new trends of testing that have drastically changed the way the software is being tested. Here are top 5 software testing trends to look upto in 2016.

1. Integrating QA through TCoE and agility

Software testing is continuously seeing greater business integration through building agile testing team and Testing Centres of Excellence (TCoE). Through the teams have been around for a while now, agility in testing is still nascent. With the continuous pressure to deliver software as soon as possible, multiple businesses are heavily investing time and money in setting up a TCoE with an aim of reducing CoQ, thereby enhancing test effectiveness and generating greater ROI out of testing.

2. Greater focus is on new technology

Latest technologies like cloud, SOA and mobile testing are on the rise. According to 2015 world Quality Report, Mobile testing has seen a rapid rise from 31% to 55% in 2015. By 2016, around 36% of software will be hosted within the cloud but the business still lacks the infrastructure for cloud testing. This might further cause the business to opt for TaaS (Testing as a service) options.

3. Higher Automation Levels

With agile testing teams and growing number of TCoEs and because of high pressure to cut the time to market, testing teams are unceasingly trying to adopt automation testing wherever possible. This isn’t in regression but in load and unit testing.

4. Focus is on security

Two elements have always been onto top priority-system robustness and security but in constant growth in social media, a software is required that can be integrated into multiple platforms, various systems are becoming more vulnerable.

5. Context drove testing

As social media is expanding, localization and mobility are still strictly integrated in terms of usage and software. It becomes difficult for businesses to maintain hardware hub and test environments necessary to test them comprehensively. As a result, of which the context-driven testing has become more popular and it ensure a wide range of testing coverage from diverse angles. This is likely to impact skill development amongst software testers as their demand will drastically increase with exposure to different contexts.

6. Independent software testing

With increased focus on software testing, many business and organizations are solely relying on specialist QA companies to obtain testing services. This is an expertise that the Quality Analyst brings to the table including TCoE capability. However, partnering with them helps the business to circumvent the pain to find skilled QA resources and then setting them up, both in terms of technology and process.
With time, more and more businesses around the world are awakening to the mandatory need to have a well built and futuristic quality assurance process to maintain their edge in the industry. Businesses that partner with specialist QA organizations tend to readily adapt the latest trends in testing.
